Our walking tours will begin on March 1, 2012. (see Note 1 below). Because the tour schedule is subject to change, reservations are required. Morning Tours are from 10 a.m. to noon. Afternoon Tours are from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Payment can be made in advance with credit card or PayPal by scheduling your tour on-line (clicking on the “Book it” button located throughout our site). We accept cash and travelers checks only at the start of the tour.
Notes(1) We encourage you to take both tours to truly enjoy the complete story of San Francisco. Once you have taken either the Morning or Afternoon tour, you qualify for a 25% discount on a second tour. You can take the second tour on the same day or come back another day. The discount is valid as long as San Francisco Walks and Talks is in operation. You do not have to pay until you take the second tour. And, the 25% discount applies to any future tours we may offer – expect a Chinatown and a Barbary Coast tour by the end of 2012. (2) We want young people to get interested in history and we don’t want to make it too costly for the entire family to take our tours. (3) There are no real hills, just 3 ½ blocks over both tours that are inclined. No one has ever had a problem with these. Helpful HintsPlease visit a restroom prior to the start of the tour. Restroom availability is extremely limited on the tour routes. There are easily accessible restrooms in the St. Francis Hotel and Macy’s on the Morning Tour and the Hilton Hotel on Portsmouth Square for the Afternoon Tour. San Francisco’s weather is very different than the rest of California. Typically, it’s always cool, and it’s often cold in the summer. Dress in layers, with a sweat shirt/sweater, and a jacket/wind breaker no matter what time of year. For the Morning Tour, take public transit to Union Square. Union Square is served by the 2 Clement, 3 Jackson, 30 Stockton, 38 Geary, 45 Union, and both the Powell/Mason and Powell/Hyde cable car lines. There are several parking garages within a few blocks, but they are expensive.
For the Afternoon Tour, take public transit to Portsmouth Square, which is served by the 1 California and 30 Stockton buses. There is a parking garage under Portsmouth Square, but it is often full.
